Can I practice specific topics?

Yes! You can browse questions by subject, unit, topic, and subtopic. This allows you to focus on areas where you need the most practice or review specific concepts before your exams.

Do I need to create an account?

Yes, creating an account allows us to save your progress, track your improvement over time, and provide personalised recommendations. Sign up takes less than a minute with just your email.

Can I review my past attempts?

Absolutely! AusGrader saves all your past attempts so you can review your answers, see how you've improved over time, and identify patterns in areas that need more work.

AusGrader works on any device with a web browser - computers, tablets, and smartphones. We recommend using a larger screen for the best experience when writing longer responses.

How does AusGrader protect my privacy?

What are the best study techniques I can use with AusGrader?

AusGrader is built around evidence-based study techniques like active recall and spaced repetition. Instead of passively re-reading notes, you practice retrieving answers under exam conditions and get instant AI feedback. You can revisit questions over time to reinforce what you've learned, and track your improvement to focus on weaker areas.

How should I use past papers on AusGrader?

For best results, simulate real exam conditions. Set a timer, don't check notes, and write full answers. After submitting, review the AI feedback against the marking criteria to understand exactly where you gained or lost marks. Track which topics you struggle with and revisit them. AusGrader saves all your attempts so you can see your progress over time.

Can I practise with past papers from other states?

Yes! AusGrader offers cross-state exam practice. Australian state syllabuses share significant content overlap, so we've mapped questions from QCE (Queensland), VCE (Victoria), HSC (NSW), WACE (WA), and SACE (SA) to your syllabus topics. This gives you access to over 21 years of exam material, so you never run out of practice questions.

How does AI grading help me study smarter?

Traditional self-study with past papers has a feedback gap. You write an answer but have no way to know if it would score well. AusGrader's AI grading closes that gap by giving you instant, rubric-aligned feedback on every answer. It shows you exactly where you gained or lost marks, highlights what examiners are looking for, and helps you identify weak spots before the real exam.

Does AusGrader support QCE, VCE, HSC, WACE, and SACE?

Yes! AusGrader supports past papers and AI grading across all major Australian exam systems: QCE (QCAA, Queensland), VCE (VCAA, Victoria), HSC (NESA, NSW), WACE (SCSA, Western Australia), and SACE (South Australia). Each state has different assessment structures and weightings, and AusGrader's grading is aligned to the relevant curriculum standards.

How many exam questions does AusGrader have?

AusGrader has 11,459 exam questions across 52 subjects and 5 Australian exam boards (QCAA, NESA, VCAA, SCSA, SACE). New questions are added as past papers are released each year.

How does cross-state exam mapping work on AusGrader?

Australian state syllabuses share significant content overlap. AusGrader maps questions from other states' past papers to your syllabus topics, so you can practise relevant questions beyond your own state's exams. Currently 40 subjects have cross-mapped content, adding 457 extra past papers across states. For example, a QCAA Biology student can practise mapped questions from NESA, VCAA, SCSA, and SACE exams.

How many students and teachers use AusGrader?

AusGrader is used by 11,413 students and 902 teachers across Australia. The platform has been used to grade over 625k+ question attempts.

Which QCAA internal assessments does AusGrader support?

AusGrader supports 43 internal assessments across 22 QCAA subjects, including IA1 data tests, IA2 student experiments and essays, and IA3 research investigations. Upload your draft and get instant ISMG-aligned feedback to improve before submission.

Can AusGrader give me feedback on internal assessments (IAs)?

Yes! AusGrader supports QCAA internal assessments across a wide range of subjects. For project-style IAs like Science student experiments (IA2), research investigations (IA3), English essays, History essays, and assignments in subjects like Business, Legal Studies, Geography, PE, Digital Solutions, and more, you can upload your draft and get AI feedback against the QCAA marking criteria. For exam-style IAs like Maths IA2 and IA3 tests and Science IA1 data tests, you can build custom practice tests and get instant grading. It's like having a tutor review your work and show you exactly where to improve before you submit.

Can I build custom tests on AusGrader?

Yes! You can create custom tests by selecting specific subjects, units, topics, and question types. This is great for targeting weak areas, preparing for internal assessments, or simulating exam conditions on topics you choose. Teachers can also build custom tests and assign them to their classes.

Can I upload handwritten answers?

Yes! AusGrader supports uploading photos or scans of handwritten answers. The AI reads your handwriting and grades it against the marking criteria, just like a typed response. This is especially useful for practising under realistic exam conditions where you write by hand.

How can teachers use AusGrader for formative assessment?

Teachers can create custom tests, assign them to classes, and get instant AI grading with class-wide analytics. This makes it easy to run quick formative assessments every week without the marking burden. Real-time results help teachers identify gaps, see which topics need reteaching, and track student progress over time.

What's the difference between Timed Mode and Practice Mode?

Timed Mode simulates real exam conditions with a strict time limit, perfect for building exam stamina and confidence. Practice Mode lets you work at your own pace without time pressure, great for learning new content. Use Practice Mode early in your revision and switch to Timed Mode closer to your exams.

Can I save my progress and come back to a test later?

Yes! AusGrader saves your progress automatically. If you start an exam or test and need to leave, you can resume right where you left off. This is helpful when you want to spread your study across multiple sessions.

How do I join my teacher's class on AusGrader?

Ask your teacher for a student invite code (starts with STU-). Sign in to AusGrader, go to your Profile, and enter the code in the 'Join a Class' section. You'll be added to your teacher's class and can access all homework and assignments they create. You can join multiple classes if you have codes from different teachers.

Can I print practice tests to complete on paper?

Yes! You can print any exam or custom test you create. Many students print tests to practise under real exam conditions (on paper, timed, no distractions) then upload photos of their completed work for instant AI grading. This is especially useful for maths and science where showing working on paper is important.

Can I see which topics are hardest for students?

Yes! AusGrader's subject pages show aggregate performance data from hundreds of thousands of attempts, including which topics students find most and least challenging. This helps you prioritise your study on topics where most students struggle. Teachers can also use this data to identify topics that need extra attention across their classes.

Is my exam data used to train AI models?

No. Your exam responses are used only to provide you with AI-powered grading and feedback. We do not use your data for advertising, training AI models, or any other commercial purpose. Your data is never shared with third parties. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.

What's the difference between teacher and student accounts?

Student accounts are for practising exam questions, taking tests, uploading handwritten answers, and tracking your progress. Teacher accounts have additional features: creating and assigning tests to classes, accessing class-wide analytics, uploading custom content, and managing student enrolments. Contact us if you need to switch account types.
