Cluey Learning is an online tutoring service: your child meets a tutor one-on-one over video, usually weekly. For Year 11 and 12 it covers English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Parent reviews are split, and Cluey does not publish its prices. This review covers what Cluey offers, what parents say about it, and when a cheaper option does the part of the job that matters most in Year 12.
We build AusGrader, which does part of what a tutor does, so read this knowing where we stand. Everything about Cluey below comes from Cluey's own website or its public Trustpilot page, checked in October 2026.
1. What Cluey Offers
- One-on-one online sessions with a tutor, bookable between 7am and 10pm, seven days a week.
- Years 2 to 12. Senior subjects are English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Cluey also lists ATAR exam preparation.
- A session report and recording after each session, showing the topics covered, and a learning plan Cluey says is updated after every session.
- Practice exercises between sessions.
- No long-term contract. You can start with two sessions. Cluey recommends one session a week to begin with.
The main thing Cluey sells is a person. A tutor who explains, adapts and turns up at the same time every week is something software does not replace.
2. How Much Cluey Costs
Cluey does not list prices. Its pricing page says the price depends on the program it designs for your child, and you get a figure after filling in an enrolment questionnaire or calling. Ask for the per-session price, the session length and the cancellation terms in writing before you commit.
For a sense of the market, online one-on-one tutoring generally runs $55 to $85 an hour, with senior specialists higher. A weekly session through Year 12 in one subject adds up to between $1,650 and $4,200 a year. Our guide to what a tutor costs in Australia shows where those numbers come from.
3. What Parents Say
Cluey's own reviews page shows selected parent testimonials without an overall rating. The largest independent source is Trustpilot, where Cluey has a TrustScore of 3.0 out of 5 from 361 reviews (October 2026). The reviews are split rather than middling: 44% are five stars and 37% are one star.
The positive reviews mostly praise individual tutors as patient and knowledgeable, and describe gains in confidence and results. The negative ones mostly concern the service around the tutoring: charges taken in advance or in unexpected amounts, cancellation and rescheduling rules, slow support, and tutors changing at short notice.
The fair reading is that the experience depends heavily on which tutor your child gets and how well the billing suits you. If you go ahead, ask about tutor continuity and get the cancellation policy in writing.
4. Cluey vs AusGrader
They are different kinds of help. Cluey is a tutor. AusGrader is marked practice: your child answers real past exam questions from their board, typed or handwritten, and each answer is marked against the official marking guide.
| Cluey | AusGrader | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Online one-on-one tutor | Marked practice on real past exam questions |
| Explains content | Yes, live | No; feedback explains what each answer needed |
| Marking | Whatever the tutor marks in the session | Every answer, against the official marking guide |
| How much practice | Booked sessions plus exercises | Unlimited, any hour |
| Progress for parents | Session report and recording | Results by topic, syllabus point and question type, against the subject average, in your child's account |
| Senior subjects | English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology | English, maths, the sciences and more, per board |
| Price | Quote only, charged per session | 10 marked answers free, then $150 one-time for 2027 |
5. Which One Does Your Child Need?
Choose a tutor if your child does not understand the content yet, or needs a booked session and a person expecting the work to get it done.
Choose marked practice if your child understands the work in class but their marks do not show it. In Year 12 that is the common case. Final exams reward full written answers that hit the marking guide, and the way to get better at that is to write lots of answers and see exactly where the marks went. AusGrader marks every answer, explains what was missing, and builds a picture of which topics and question types are costing marks, for the price of about two tutoring sessions.
Many families do both, using marked practice between tutoring sessions so the paid hours go on the things only a person can do. Free resources cover a lot of the explaining too: school notes, the board's own materials, and free video lessons on YouTube and Khan Academy.
Check what's covered for your child's board: QCE, VCE, HSC or WACE.

The Bottom Line
Cluey gives your child a tutor, and a good one is worth a lot when the problem is understanding or motivation. Reviews suggest the experience varies with the tutor and the billing, and the price is quote-only. If your child's problem is turning what they know into marks, start with marked practice: it costs less for the year than a couple of sessions, and it will tell you whether a tutor is needed at all.
